Israel indicts al-Qaeda linked terror cell

Friday, March 18, 2005 |

Five Palestinians have been indicted for planning major terrorist attacks on Israeli targets including the Knesset (parliament). The leader of the cell tried to get a construction job at the Knesset to gather intelligence and prepare for the attack. The case is unusual because the charge sheet says the terrorists were influenced by al-Qaeda, the group responsible for 9/11 and other major terrorist attacks abroad. While Palestinian terrorist attacks are often masterminded by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Syria and Iran, links to al-Qaeda are rare.
