Arabs stab Jewish man in Jerusalem

Sunday, November 04, 2012 |  Ryan Jones

Two Arab assailants stabbed a Jewish man in Jerusalem on Friday, leading to a showdown between Jewish and Arab demonstrators a day later.

The attack happened on Friday evening, when the victim and a friend were walking back from Jerusalem's Old City to a Jewish-owned house in the predominantly Arab neighborhood of Ras al-Amoud.

The man was moderately wounded in the attack and transfered to a nearby hospital.

On Saturday evening, a group of some 30 Israeli Jews gathered in the area to protest the lack of police protection for Jews in Arab-dominated parts of the city.

In response, a number of Arabs gathered and launched fireworks (in celebration of the stabbing?) and scuffled with police.

Tensions between the Jewish and Arab halves of Jerusalem have been rising in recent years, despite efforts by Mayor Nir Barkat and local Arab elders to calm the situation.
