This coming Friday will mark the 74th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, the event that is widely viewed as the start of the Nazi Holocaust against the Jews. It is a particularly difficult memorial for Jewish survivors of the Holocaust.
Israel is today home to some 200,000 Holocaust survivors, but that number is dwindling fast as victims of one of the darkest chapters in human history succumb to old age.
More alarming is the realization that a staggering 35 percent of Holocaust survivors in Israel are living out their final years in poverty. This simply should not be, but Israel's cash-strapped government simply does not have the resources to remedy the situation.
That's where the generosity of both Jews and Christians who love Israel and want to bless those who have endured so much comes in.
