Syrian gunfire hits Israeli army jeep

An Israeli military vehicle patrolling the border with Syria on Monday night was reportedly damaged by gunfire from the Syrian side.

The soldiers in the vehicle were reportedly uninjured.

While Israeli officials believe the bullets were strays, and that fighters on the Syrian side did not intentionally target the Israelis, the incident again demonstrate just how close Syria's civil war has come to Israel's borders.

Last weekend, Israeli army chief Gen. Benny Gantz put the IDF on high alert over growing concerns that both Syrian government and rebel forces are trying to draw Israel into the fighting.
