UPDATE: Intense rocket barrage on southern Israel

Sunday, November 18, 2012 |  Ryan Jones

Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip intensified their rocket fire on southern Israel on Sunday. At least 70 missiles were launched against Israeli cities by mid-afternoon.

The primary targets of the attacks were the towns of Beersheva, Ashkelon and Ashdod.

Israel's immensely successful Iron Dome anti-missile defense system managed to shoot down at least 52 of the incoming missiles.

But several of the missiles that did get through hit residential areas and destroyed a number of homes. Miraculously, no physical injuries were reported.

Tens of thousands of Israeli troops and hundreds of tanks are massed on the Gaza border, and could be ordered into battle at a moment's notice if the situation gets any worse.
