Israeli chef serves poor Kenyan orphans

A group of 250 Kenyan orphans had probably never dreamed of enjoying an Israeli feast at their orphanage in Nairobi.

Famed Israeli chef Omer Miller cooked the feast of shwarma and Israeli hummus in one of the most impoverished slums in Nairobi.

Chef Miller, who owns and operates one of the most popular restaurants in Tel Aviv, had flown in to Kenya for food and culture festival, but decided to make a humanitarian detour.

"The level of poverty in Africa is astounding, and for those of us who do not lack anything, it can sometimes be hard to believe," said Miller. "If we would all just pay a little more attention to those in need, things could look very different."

Israel and Kenya have close diplomatic relations for the past 50 years, and Kenya has been openly recognized as one of the most loyal friends of the Jewish state in Africa.
