A Jerusalem court on Thursday heard charges against five Arab residents of the holy city who were accused of planning to attack Jewish worshipers at the Temple Mount and Western Wall.
The five men, all aged between 20 and 25, had contacted terrorist organizations in Judea, Samaria and Gaza in order to buy weapons and explosives and obtain arms training.
The gang also planned to kidnap a Jewish settler and murder the victim with his or her own weapon, according to the charges. In fact, the five did pick up a Jewish hitchhiker north of Jerusalem recently, but released him after learning the man was unarmed.
Israeli news footage and pictures in local newspapers showed the five would-be terrorists smiling, laughing and joking with one another as they were led into court.
As holders of Israeli identification, the five also face charges of assisting an enemy in a time of war for their attempted cooperation with terror groups operating out of Palestinian Authority-controlled territories.
