Messiah at the Ma'avar

Israel’s Christian detractors often speak of “Christ at the Checkpoint,” putting Yeshua (Jesus) in the position of having to pass through one of the many Israeli army border crossings (ma’avar gvul in Hebrew) that separate Israel from the territories claimed by the Palestinians. But Yeshua is also standing on the other side of that equation.

Captain Josh, a Messianic Jewish believer, was in charge of some of these checkpoints for years and today trains many of the soldiers who go on to man them. Josh has struggled daily to demonstrate the love of Yeshua in a very difficult situation and to instill this in the soldiers under him. Every day thousands of Palestinian men, women and children living beyond this porous border in Judea and Samaria (the socalled “West Bank”) pass through the checkpoints guarded by Josh’s soldiers.
