Israel prepares for major cross-border attacks

The Israeli army on Sunday launched a large-scale surprise exercise simulating three simultaneous major terrorist attacks.

The conditions of the drill had Israelis soldiers dealing with hypothetical terrorist incursions from Syria and Sinai, as well as a mass hostage situation.

While the exercise had been planned in advance, the date was kept secret in order to test the soldiers' response to an surprise assault on the Jewish state.

Israel remains on high alert for possible attempts to drag it into Syria's ongoing civil war.
