At the Church of the Holy Sepulcher

Sunday, March 27, 2005 |
Easter mass was celebrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem’s Old City. Priests in white robes led a candlelit procession around the ancient stone tomb believed to be the site of the resurrection. It was the best turnout of pilgrims since fighting erupted four and a half years ago—the result of a lull in Israeli-Palestinian fighting. “People have welcomed us wherever we’ve gone in Israel and the West Bank,” John Saxon of Madison, Wisconsin told “israel today.” “I feel very safe. And walking here in the footsteps of Jesus really brings the Bible to life.” What a blessing to be in the city where Jesus rose from the dead!
