Thousands of Palestinian Arabs violently demonstrated on Friday in Gaza and the so-called “West Bank” on the anniversary of the outbreak of the Second Intifada, known by many Israelis as the “Oslo War”.
Israeli security forces were pelted with stones and firebombs, resulting in a number of injuries. Several rioters were arrested.
In Gaza, a coffin covered in an Israeli flag was burned, as were dolls bearing the faces of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres. Gaza-based terrorists also fired a missile at the nearby Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon.
At a rally in Gaza, a spokesman for the ruling terrorist organization, Hamas, called on those in attendance to instigate the Third Intifada.
Hamas and other Palestinian leaders claim Israel is attempting to further “Judaize” the holy city of Jerusalem and eventually rebuild the Jewish Temple in place of the mosques that currently occupy the Temple Mount.
Jerusalem was also the scene of much violence over the weekend. At least 100 Arab rioters, most of them youth, attacked police with slingshots and firebombs in and around the Old City.
Below is a selection of images from the weekend clashes:
