Israeli Soldier Killed in Terror Stabbing

An 18-year-old Israeli soldier died on Wednesday after being repeatedly stabbed in the neck by a Palestinian Arab youth.

The soldier was sleeping in the midst of a long bus ride from Nazareth to Tel Aviv when the 16-year-old assailant attacked.

The victim, who had just joined the Israeli army two weeks earlier, was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors worked frantically to stabilize his condition, while the terrorist was captured by fellow passengers on the bus.

Israeli government officials said the incident is yet another reminder of why Israel must stop prematurely releasing jailed Palestinian terrorists. One the one hand, Palestinian society glorifies those who kill Israeli Jews, while on the other Israel itself signals that such crimes will almost always carry a reduced sentence.

In other violence, Palestinian Arabs rioted in Jerusalem on Monday after police shut down an event honoring former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

The terms of Israel's signed agreements with the Palestinian Authority prohibit Palestinian political parties from holding official events in Jerusalem.

There were no serious injuries in the scuffle, and police did not arrest any of the perpetrators of the riot.
