Israel Today Interviews Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat

Friday, December 13, 2013 |  Aviel Schneider

Nir Barkat, 54, won a hotly-contested election for the mayor of Jerusalem last month and is entering his second five-year term.

It is said that Barkat runs the city like a business and doesn’t pay attention to political intrigue. Having already made a small fortune in the private sector, he does not embrace the sensitive task of running one of the world’s most volatile cities for the money; he does it out of dedication to the principle that Jerusalem must remain the eternal capital of the State of Israel and Jewish people. He also believes that the city’s Arab residents want to remain under Israeli rule.

Barkat discussed his vision for the Holy City with Israel Today editor-in-chief Aviel Schneider.
