Netanyahu slams Gaza withdrawal plan

Wednesday, March 30, 2005 |

Cabinet Minister and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has blasted the Gaza withdrawal plan. “A pattern has been created of Israeli unilateral withdrawal, including the evacuation of settlements, without any tangible return from the other side,” Netanyahu said in a speech. He was firing the opening shot in the battle for the future leadership of the Likud party, hoping to eventually unseat Sharon. Netanyahu does not believe the Gaza pullout will stop Palestinian terror, so when the time comes, he'll be able to say, “I told you so.” But critics say Netanyahu spoke up too late. Fearing Sharon would fire him, Netanyahu reluctantly voted for the Gaza plan in the Cabinet.
