Terror Suspected in Northern Israel Murder

A young woman was stabbed to death in a parking lot in northern Israel last Thursday in what police officials believe could be an act of Palestinian terrorism.

Shelly Dadon, 20, from the lower Galilee town of Afula was found in a parking lot in nearby Migdal Ha’emek, where she had reportedly gone for a job interview. When she failed to arrive for the interview, Dadon’s family became worried and contacted the authorities.

Police examiners said that in addition to stab wounds to the chest, Dadon’s body exhibited signs of violent struggle. Dadon had reportedly been on the phone with her cousin when she was first attacked. The cousin later told Israeli media that Dadon had shouted, “there is someone scary here, I’m being strangled!” before the call was cut off.

The location of the murder is the same place where police found the body of taxi driver Yafim Weinstein in 2009. Weinstein had been murdered by terror cell hailing from nearby Nazareth.

Police believe the perpetrator or perpetrators in Dadon’s murder similarly fled to a nearby Arab village, and a large-scale manhunt is currently underway.

“Her only sin was being Jewish,” said the Rabbi of Migdal Haemek, Rabbi Yitzhak David Grossman, at Dadon’s funeral.

Dadon’s father delivered a heartbreaking eulogy: “I stand here in front of her grave fresh, and refuse to believe. Our flower, our angel, the princess of the house is gone. …It is difficult to talk about you in the past tense, but reality now strikes us. …It is impossible to find words to comfort us.”

Earlier when she was called to the Migdal Ha’emek police station, Dadon’s mother had cried out, “My love, my beautiful girl why did you have to go? What have they done to you?”

Many friend and family members have told Israeli media that they are angered over the relative silence surrounding Dadon’s murder, even as Israeli politicians bend over backwards to condemn acts of Jewish vandalism targeting Arab Muslims and Christians.
