EU's top envoy in Israel says Europe ‘losing patience’ over settlements

Sunday, June 29, 2014 |  Israel Today Staff

He stated that, "The states [of the EU] are losing patience when it comes to continued construction in the settlements, and if the trend continues, more countries will join these warnings against businesses operating over the Green Line."

Italy's Foreign Minister issued the warning for EU states “not to get involved in financial activity and investments” in settlements on the eve of Italy assuming the rotating presidency of the EU.

An Israeli diplomatic official calling the statements “political statements disguised as legal ones, and as such one that merely reiterates old and well-known European positions.”

The “vague wording of the statements points to the weak legal foundations of the warning,” the official said.

This berating of Israel by the EU's top representative in Israel comes less than 2 weeks after the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, summoned Lars Faaborg-Andersen to protest a joint statement issued by the EU and the Arab League, calling it one-sided and biased against Israel.
