Israeli police officials on Sunday announced that the May 2 murder of 19-year-old Sheli Dadon in northern Israel has been solved and that it appears to have been an act of terrorism.
An Arab taxi driver, Hassin Khalifah, has been arrested in connection to the case after admitting that he had murdered Dadon and reenacting the grizzly crime for police.
Dadon left her home in the northern town of Afula for a job interview in nearby Migdal Ha’emek on May 1. Her body was later found in a local parking lot with 17 stab wounds.
Police examiners said that in addition to stab wounds to the chest, Dadon’s body exhibited signs of violent struggle. Dadon had reportedly been on the phone with her cousin when she was first attacked. The cousin later told Israeli media that Dadon had shouted, “there is someone scary here, I’m being strangled!” before the call was cut off.
Dadon’s murder sparked protests by Israelis frustrated with what they perceived to be the government’s leniency toward Arab acts of violence against Jews.
