Israeli forces early Monday morning engaged Hamas terrorists emerging from two tunnels in southern Israel.
The incident began when five terrorist gunmen were spotted coming out of a tunnel near the northern part of the Gaza security fence, and only a few hundred yards from the nearest Jewish village.
Media reports indicate that the Shin Bet (the Israeli equivalent of the FBI) provided intelligence on the planned attack, and in the following video the terror squad can be seen being engaged and ultimately destroyed by Israeli forces.
Around the same time, another group of Hamas gunmen emerged from a nearby tunnel exit that was possibly part of the same underground network used by the first squad.
The second terror cell managed to ambush a passing IDF patrol, resulting in injuries to Israeli soldiers. In the ensuing gun battle, Israeli forces eliminated this second group before it was able to escape back into the tunnel.
A large Israeli ground force continues to operate inside the Gaza Strip in an effort to find and destroy these tunnels, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has deemed a “strategic threat” to Israel’s security.
