Settler compensation hits a snag

Monday, April 04, 2005 |

Jewish settlers who will leave their homes in the Gaza Strip under the government's evacuation plan are supposed to get about $300,000 per family in compensation. But the compensation process is bogged down in bureaucracy, and so far only eight claims are ready for approval out of 1,700 families. That means settlers could be forced out of their homes without any money. It's a brewing scandal that has the potential to delay the pullout, which is set to begin in July.
