Israel and some Western powers are still publicly hoping that Gaza will be demilitarized as one of the outcomes of this summer’s war. But Hamas and its on-again-off-again patrons in Iran have much different plans.
Not only will Gaza not be disarmed, but Iranian officials are vowing to significantly boost the military power of terror groups operating out of Judea and Samaria (the so-called “West Bank”).
“Arming the West Bank has started and weapons will be supplied to the people of this region,” Mohammad Reza Naqdi, head of Iran’s state-run Basij militia, told the Fars news agency last week.
Naqdi noted that much of Hamas’ capability in this summer’s war was provided by Iran. The Jewish state was somewhat surprised by Hamas missiles reaching all the way to the north of the country, and the constant bombardment of Tel Aviv.
Naqdi suggested that the plan is to enable terrorists in the West Bank to similarly wreak havoc on Israel.
“The Zionists should know that the next war won’t be confined to the present borders and the Mujahedeen will push them back,” he stated.
