Gaza settlers giving up the fight

It appears that most of the 8,000 Jewish settlers in the Gaza Strip are giving up the fight for their homes, now that the Israeli pullout this summer seems inevitable. A compromise is in the works, after Gaza settlement leaders met with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Under the deal, most of the settlers would move together to a nearby beach community inside Israel, and they would get more compensation money. As Matthew Gutman put it in the “Jerusalem Post”: “By supporting the move to Nitzanim, a stretch of pristine dunes between the coastal cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon, the settlers sounded a surrender.”
