Parliamentarians move to beleaguered settlements

Wednesday, April 06, 2005 |
A number of hawkish Knesset members (parliamentarians) are moving to some of the 25 settlements in Gaza and northern Samaria that are slated for evacuation. Right wing parliamentarian Arieh Eldad moved to Sa-Nur, one of four settlements in northern Samaria that Sharon plans to dismantle. “The idea of moving to Sa-Nur is for being with the community in the most difficult hours,” Eldad told Israel Radio. Eldad and other parliamentarians are defying a government ban on Jews moving to settlements that will be evacuated. Eldad said his parliamentary immunity enables him to carry out a legitimate act of protest.
