Israel on High Alert as Arab Sector Erupts

Sunday, November 09, 2014 |  Israel Today Staff

Palestinian Arabs and Israel’s own Arab sector further escalated incitement and violence against the nation’s Jews and Jewish authorities on Sunday after the police killing of a knife-wielding fanatic a day earlier.

“Israel is a terrorist state,” chanted Arab demonstrators, many of them violent, across the country following the death of 22-year-old Kheir Hamdan during an arrest attempt in the Galilee town of Kfar Kana (associated with the village of Cana in the New Testament).

In the video below, a frenzied Hamdan is seen charging and attacking a police van with a knife. What is not seen in the video are thousands of other villagers rioting against the Jewish state.

Despite the evidence provided by the video footage, many Arab leaders insisted the police were wrong to use lethal force against Hamdan, and encouraged the masses to take to the streets in protest.

All across Israel on Sunday, Arab university students demonstrated, Arab stores were closed and workers went on strike, and in more than a few locations Jews were attacked with stones, firebombs and other makeshift weapons.

In two of the worst attacks, two people were wounded when their car was set upon by a mob of stone-throwing Arab youth in Jerusalem, and north of the capital a five-year-old Jewish child sustained injuries when his family vehicle was attacked.

Thousands of police were deployed to flash points around the country and security forces went on high alert. But many Israelis, in particular the residents of Jerusalem, saw the attacks as an escalation of a new wave of terrorist violence that has been plaguing the nation for months.

Half a dozen Israelis remain hospitalized, three of them in serious condition, following vehicular terror attacks in and near Jerusalem last week. Two people were killed in the worst of those two incidents.

Local Arab social media pages have lauded what they are calling the “Car Intifada,” and are urging more Arab motorists to run over Israeli Jews.

Much of the violence is being fueled by Arab media reports that the Jews are desecrating and trying to seize control of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. In reality, different Jewish groups and Knesset members have been ascending the Temple Mount as a statement of protest over the lack of freedom of worship at the holy site. Jews and Christians are currently forbidden to pray at the Temple Mount for fear of further Muslim violence.
