Prime Minister Ariel Sharon meets President Bush today at his Texas ranch in a meeting that is meant to boost support for the Gaza withdrawal plan. But a dispute is looming over another plan--to build 3,500 Jewish homes in Israel's biggest settlement, Ma'ale Adumim. Sharon's spokesman Ra'anan Gissin says it's an old problem. “Among friends, there's always differences and it comes as no surprise,” Gissin said, adding that Israel and the US have disagreed over settlements since the Six Day War in 1967. Israel wants to connect Ma'ale Adumim to Jerusalem, but Bush says that's a violation of the “roadmap” peace plan. That position contradicts Bush’s commitment to Sharon that Israel will hold on to major settlement blocs in any final agreement with the Palestinians.
