Settlers slated for evacuation to be disarmed

The Israeli army plans to disarm residents of four settlements in northern Samaria slated for evacuation this summer. Officials say the aim is to prevent bloodshed in the event that the settlers are removed by force. They would be disarmed two weeks before the pullout. The settlers say they will not hand over their guns because that would leave them defenseless against Palestinian attacks. Military sources say a number of other measures are being considered to ensure a peaceful evacuation, including pre-emptive arrests and barring Jewish militants from entering the settlements.
