First concrete sign of Israeli pullout from Gaza

Wednesday, April 20, 2005 |
The Israeli army began removing non-essential gear from a base in the Gaza Strip today, the first visible sign of the planned pullout from the area this summer. About 30 shipping containers filled with furniture, computers, weapons and uniforms were loaded onto trucks and driven away to Israel proper. The army said the base will remain in use until the withdrawal is completed. The pullout is due to begin July 25th, but the government is considering a delay of three weeks because the original date falls during the Jewish mourning period for the destruction of the two Biblical Temples.
