Israeli-Palestinian talks on coordinating pullout

Thursday, April 21, 2005 |

Israeli and Palestinian officials held a series of meetings today to discuss coordinating the Gaza withdrawal. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz met Palestinian Cabinet Minister Mohammed Dahlan; Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia held talks with Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres; and Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat met with Dov Weisglass, a senior Sharon adviser. The Palestinians want the pullout to be the first step in implementing the roadmap, which calls for the creation of a Palestinian state. But Israel says it will not move into the roadmap until the Palestinians begin to take the plan’s first step--dismantling terrorist groups.
