Support Israel's Children

Thursday, August 06, 2015 |  Israel Today Staff

Recently, after a lengthy debate and administrative process, the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has implemented its proposed reductions to child support payments.

The new ruling is a blow to big families - individual child grants, paid to families with children under the age of 18, have been significantly reduced. The rationale behind the cuts is a drive to encourage parents to work - all very well in theory, but employment is scarce in many areas in Israel, and women in their childbearing years, with young ones at home to take care of, are not usually in a position to take on responsible work with high earnings.

A month of Jewish holidays, and high back-to-school expenses, both loom ahead. Child poverty rates have risen alarmingly in the recent past - something a God-fearing nation cannot allow. Israel Today is committed to alleviate child poverty in Israel.
