Tight Passover security continues

Monday, April 25, 2005 |

Israelis are observing the weeklong Biblical feast of Passover under tight security. There may be a “cease-fire,” but Israeli officials say they have intelligence information about 50 attacks being planned by Palestinian terrorists. Israeli spokesman Mark Regev says the aim is a Passover attack that would torpedo peace efforts and “that will cripple this process before we move forward.” Israel says the failure of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to dismantle terrorist groups gives them a veto over the peace process. Israelis returning home from the traditional Passover “seder” meal on Saturday night in the Tel Aviv area were stranded for hours in their cars as police set up roadblocks in search of terrorists.
