Priestly Blessing at the Western Wall

Tuesday, April 26, 2005 |
About 20,000 Israelis gathered at the Western Wall here in Jerusalem for the Priestly Blessing during the weeklong Passover holiday. The Kohanim (the priestly descendants of Aaron) put prayer shawls over their heads and extended their hands toward the huge congregation saying: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26). Security was tight. Some 2,000 police deployed in and around Jerusalem's Old City, amid concerns that Palestinians could attempt a terrorist attack to mar the holiday.
