Anti-Sharon graffiti mars Holocaust Day

Friday, May 06, 2005 |
Hebrew graffiti comparing Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to Adolf Hitler marred yesterday’s observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day. Israeli police believe Jewish militants are responsible for the graffiti which said: "Sharon is following in Hitler's footsteps," and "Sharon--Hitler would be proud of you." The graffiti was sharply condemned. “It's obviously outrageous and the people who are doing it are basically, in a sense, joining the worst of Israel and the Jewish people's enemies in making such odious comparisons,” said Nazi hunter Ephraim Zuroff who heads the Simon Wiesenthal Center here in Jerusalem. The graffiti, which included swastikas, is a sign of the increasingly bitter rhetoric against Sharon's plan to pullout of the Gaza Strip this summer.
