A Different Kind Of Purim Costume

Monday, March 07, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff

In the wake of Syrian unrest, and the threat of an attack by Lebanese based terrorist group - Hizbullah, Israel's northern residents are renewing their government-distributed gas masks. A couple of weeks before the festival of Purim, Israeli children are learning to don another costume.

Israel's "Pikud HaOref" - Rearguard Command - said that the issuing and renewal of gas masks are higher than at this time last year. That means that many citizens are visiting distribution centers to receive their protective gear.

Almost 5,000,000 protective gear kits are in the possession of Israelis countrywide.

Young children are especially vulnerable to toxins, and Israel has had to create special protective kits for younger children. The image in the post is of the cover of the User Manual of a protective cover for children aged 0 - 2, and illustrates how Israel has to prepare to cope with dangerous neighbors. In a couple of weeks children will dress up very differently when they celebrate the redemption of the Jewish people from the evil plans of Haman on Purim.

Purim, celebrated on March 24th this year, is a holiday for children... Israeli children dress up and go around giving gifts - Mishloach Manot - to friends, as well as attending synagogue to hear the Megilla (the story of Esther) being read aloud.

Help needy Israeli children celebrate this festive holiday and give them something to smile about in this trying time. Israel Today staff will deliver your Purim Treat to help needy children celebrate this festive holiday.

Your gift of $55 will provide 2 gift packages to needy children. Each Purim package includes:
