Purim is fast approaching...

Monday, March 14, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff

It is better for a man to increase gifts to the poor (on Purim) than to enlarge his feast and to increase gifts to his friends. For there is no greater and more wonderful joy than to make happy the hearts of the poor..." (Rambam, Hilchot Megillah 2)

Israelis love celebrating Purim! Children get the day off school and in many towns lively children's parades are organized with the streets filled with children dressed up in costume. Israelis of all ages deliver "mishlochei manot" - baskets of prepared food and goodies - to their friends and neighbors.

But about one third of all Israeli children live in poverty and cannot enjoy the spirit of this holiday if it weren’t for the help of charitable organizations. They take the happiness of others to heart during the holiday.

Israel today will once again be preparing packages for distribution this Purim. Each package, lovingly prepared by our team, will contain a special surprise gift, noisemakers for use during the reading of the "Megillah" - the book of Esther - as well as a selection of their favorite sweets to "sweeten" this holiday for the children.

Israel Today will be supporting the Makor HaTikvah Messianic School during their Purim celebrations as well as distributing packages in three major Jerusalem hospitals - Hadassa Ein Kerem, Hadassa Har HaTzofim, and Shaarei Tzedek.
