Prime Minister Ariel Sharon says Israel's Gaza pullout will begin in mid-August, three weeks later than planned. “It will be August 15th or 17th,” Sharon told Israel Television, adding that the original target date falls during a traditional Jewish mourning period for the destruction of the Biblical Temples. And the last thing Sharon wants is for his Gaza pullout to become associated with one of the darkest chapters in Jewish history. But some officials admit that the government is buying time because it's not prepared. The biggest problem is housing for the 8,000 Jewish settlers who will be evacuated. The government needs to build temporary housing areas, which the settlers have dubbed “refugee camps.”
