FM Shalom: Hamas election victory should halt Gaza withdrawal

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 |

Israel is expressing concern about the participation of the Islamic terrorist group Hamas in Palestinian parliamentary elections this summer. Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom says Israel should call off its pullout from Gaza, if Hamas wins the elections on July 17. "Do you think there is a way to negotiate with them while their main aim and their main goal is to destroy the state of Israel?" Shalom said. Israel fears the creation of a Hamas terror state in Gaza. But Prime Minister Sharon says the Gaza pullout will take place no matter what.
