Monday, April 25, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff

Formula racing has increased tremendously in popularity in Israel of late, and many Israelis were thrilled to discover one of their own moving up the ranks in the racing world.

Roy Nissany currently drives for the Lotus team in the Formula V8 3.5 series, which held its fourth race of the season on Sunday in Hungary.

Racing in heavy rain, Nissany clocked the fastest lap of the race and ultimately came in second place. He is now ranked 6th overall for the season with another 14 races to go.

Roy is the son of Chanoch Nissany, a former test driver for Minardi Formula 1 Team.

In 2014, when he was just 21-years-old, Roy placed 17th overall in the Formula 3 European Championship.
