Do Arab Knesset Members Want to Destroy Israel?

Monday, May 02, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff

Are the Arab members of Israel’s Knesset, led by their firebrand spokesman MK Ahmed Tibi, really interested in a two-state solution, or do they share Hamas’ dream of wiping the State of Israel off the map?

That was the question posed by Israel’s NRG news portal in its reporting ahead of Tibi’s appearance before the Palestinian American Coalition (PAC) on Sunday.

Usually, NRG noted, Tibi is screaming about the ’67 borders, but according to the advertisement (pictured) for this week’s event, the entire State of Israel is reimagined as “Palestine.”

Tibi’s talk was titled “A Palestinian in the Knesset: Perspectives on identity, equality and advocacy for Palestine”.

Likud parliamentarian Dr. Anat Berko harshly criticized Tibi’s inflammatory speech and the promotional material.

“MK Ahmed Tibi has long fooled the Israeli public by adopting a ‘chummy’ demeanor,” said Berko, “[but] to the Palestinian public both here and abroad he is selling something different entirely.”

Berko continued by explaining that the “map of ‘Greater Palestine’ displayed alongside [Tibi’s] smiling face on the US invitation is but one example of this.”

Tibi’s office responded: “With all due respect, we do not determine what will be on their invitation, how they design their symbol or color their homeland, and there is a difference between a homeland and state.”

The statement went on to demand that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ministers announce what borders, if any, they intend to give to a Palestinian state.

Tibi also insisted that he remains committed to the ’67 borders.
