Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met a group of top American Evangelical Christians who are on a visit to Israel promoting tourism. The delegation included Jay Sekulow, a high profile Messianic Jew who hosts a daily talk show on some 550 stations. The “Jerusalem Post” ran a front page article on the meeting, with the headline: “Sharon ‘unwittingly’ meets prominent ‘Jew for Jesus.’ The Post quoted an official in the Prime Minister’s Office as saying that Sharon was unaware of Sekulow’s Jewish background. “These are hard-core Republicans, very supportive of Israel,” the official said. “The man is willing to do a lot for the state of Israel.” Other leaders on the tour include Paul Crouch, the founder of Trinity Broadcasting Network and Ted Haggard, the president of the National Association of Evangelicals.
