The whole country is full of flags...

On Wednesday evening, an amazing transformation will take place in Israel's mood. After commemorating Israel's 23,447 fallen, the sombre mood gives way to celebration as Israel celebrates her 68th Independence Day!

One of the songs sung on Independence Day is:
The whole country is full of flags
And the whole nation is dancing
The nation and her children are happy
Today is an Israeli celebration

Rona Ramon (widow of Ilan Ramon) will light one of the twelve torches during the Yom Ha'atzmaut opening ceremony. The torches symbolize the tribes of Israel. Rona's husband, Ilan Ramon, was Israel's first astronaut who died in the Columbia space shuttle disaster in 2003. Rona and Ilan's eldest son, Asaf followed in his father's footsteps and became an IAF fighter pilot. Asaf died tragically in a training accident in 2009.
Rona went on to study holistic health, has established a foundation in memory of her husband and son and now counsels others to cope with personal tragedies.
