Palestinian police get guns

Israel is allowing Palestinian police to carry assault rifles in cities in Judea and Samaria for the first time since fighting erupted four and a half years ago. The aim is to help Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas seize control of the streets from terrorist groups and restore law and order. It’s an attempt to strengthen Abbas, whom Israel sees as a moderate and a partner for peace. But many Israelis are skeptical--it's not that long ago that Palestinian police turned their weapons against Israel.
