Israel will retaliate despite truce

The gun battle follows orders from Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz to take “all the necessary measures” to stop Palestinian shelling. Terrorists in Gaza have fired dozens of mortar shells and rockets at Jewish communities since Wednesday, when a Hamas gunmen was killed while planting a roadside bomb. Palestinian police seem powerless to prevent the attacks. When officers were sent to stop the shelling, they came under fire from gunmen and were stoned by an angry crowd. The latest fighting threatens to unravel the three-month-old cease-fire.
