The wife and son of Israel's Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar have been charged with the kidnapping and severe beating of a 17-year-old ultra-Orthodox youth because they objected to his relationship with the rabbi's 18-year-old daughter. Adding further drama to the plot, the young couple met over the Internet. Both dating and the Internet are frowned upon in the cloistered world of the ultra-Orthodox. It's material for a paperback novel, but since this is a real life web of intrigue, it's the talk of the town. (We’ll have an in-depth report on the scandal in the June edition of “israel today” magazine).
