Palestinians heckle Laura Bush on Temple Mount!

Sunday, May 22, 2005 |

US First Lady Laura Bush got a hot welcome from Palestinian Moslems as she visited the Temple Mount today, part of a brief goodwill visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories. As she approached the golden Dome of the Rock, marking Islam’s third holiest site, demonstrators shouted: "How dare you come in here! Why are you hassling Moslems?" One man cried: "None of you [non-Moslems] belong in here." Israeli police formed a human chain around Mrs. Bush and pushed protesters away. Anti-American sentiment has been running high in the Middle East since “Newsweek” magazine reported that American soldiers had flushed a Koran down the toilet at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. The report was later retracted. Ironically, Mrs. Bush visited the Dome of the Rock to show that America is a tolerant nation.
