First Lady at the Western Wall

Sunday, May 22, 2005 |

Earlier, Mrs. Bush visited the Western Wall, and in accordance with local tradition, placed a note in its ancient crevices. About 40 Jewish demonstrators demanded the release of Jonathan Pollard, the American navy analyst caught spying for Israel 20 years ago and who is serving a life term. They shouted, "Free Pollard Now!" The First Lady also went to Jericho, where she held a round table discussion on women’s rights with eight prominent Palestinian women. She concluded the day with a tribute to Jewish suffering at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
