Israeli troops arrested a 14-year-old Palestinian boy strapped with explosives at a checkpoint in Samaria. The army said he was planning to blow himself up at the Hawwara checkpoint near Nablus where he was detained. The bomb belt was safely detonated in a controlled explosion. The boy’s father said he was recruited by the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade, the military wing of Mahmoud Abbas’ ruling Fatah movement. Terrorist groups have often recruited young teenagers because they are less likely to arouse the suspicion of Israeli troops.
