Israel seeks US aid for Gaza pullout

Monday, May 30, 2005 |

A congressional delegation is visiting Israel to discuss financing for Israel's planned pullout from the Gaza Strip this summer. Since America is fully backing the “disengagement” from Gaza, Israel is seeking additional aid--to the tune of some $500 million. “It’s premature at this point to say how much more [money] there will be for disengagement, but I'm sure that the United States intends to play a major role in helping this come about,” said Congressman Jim Colby of Arizona. Israel says it's prepared to pay a high price for peace, but it's sending the bill to Uncle Sam.
