Attorney General Meni Mazuz has accused protesters who have crippled the nation's traffic by blocking roads of “rebellion.” Right-wing Israelis have frequently blocked traffic on major roads during evening rush hour as part of a civil disobedience campaign against the government’s plan to pull out of the Gaza Strip this summer. But the settlers and their supporters say it’s democracy plain and simple. “The right of free expression, the right to demonstrate, the right of assembly is sacred,” said settlement activist Yisrael Meidad. Activists say charges of rebellion are an attempt by the government to discredit the opponents of the Gaza pullout.
