Ya’alon: ‘Gaza pullout will not bring stability’

Wednesday, June 01, 2005 |
Outgoing Israeli Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Moshe Ya'alon, 54, says he expects Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip this summer to be followed by an eruption of Palestinian violence and terror in Judea and Samaria. "If there is an Israeli commitment to another move [i.e., further Israeli pullouts], we will gain another period of quiet," Ya’alon told the Hebrew daily “Ha’aretz in an interview marking the end of his term. "If not, there will be an eruption...terrorist attacks of all types: shootings, bombs, suicide bombers, mortars, Qassam rockets." Critics of the Gaza pullout have said that it is a reward for terror that will encourage the Palestinians to keep fighting.
