Israel’s new army chief Major-General Dan Halutz, 57, took up his post today at a ceremony here in Jerusalem. He said the army would carry out the Gaza withdrawal in a sensitive way, but would use all the necessary means to implement the plan efficiently. Halutz, the first air force commander to become chief of staff, paid tribute to the spirit of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) "It comprises a sense of mission, values and morality," Halutz said. "Morality that sanctifies life and the dignity of the human being, created in the image of God."
