According to a new poll, Israeli public support for the planned pullout from the Gaza Strip this summer has dropped to 50 percent. That's down from 59 percent two weeks ago, and a high of 65 percent a while back. The poll, published in the Hebrew daily “Ma’ariv,” showed that 38 percent of Israelis oppose the pullout. Commentary accompanying the poll said that "in the long-term...a weary public is asking itself why it needs this headache, and it is beginning to have regrets about the whole ‘disengagement’ idea." Doomsday scenarios by senior military officials have also contributed to declining support. The outgoing army chief warned this week that the pullout would not bring stability but will be followed by a new round of Palestinian terror.
